This album was directly inspired by the birth of twins in late 2006. While writing material for Reformation, the third album in the "Watery Grave" suite, I came upon the idea of creating a song about my wife's twin pregnancy experience, where one minute of music is exactly equal to one week of pregnancy. The song "Amniotic" was the result, and on its completion, realised it didn't fit in with the Watery Grave themes, so decided to release it on its own album.
Once I realised this, and of course, because we had twins, I decided to write another song to both compliment and contrast the first. "Simulacra" takes the same initial idea but executes it from a completely different angle. Where "Amniotic" takes a very literal approach, and describes (in sound) many of the things that actually happened during the pregnancy (including 4 migraines!), "Simulacra" is more emotive in nature and describes more of how I was feeling through the 29 weeks of pregnancy.
"Waterfalls" wasn't originally intended to be part of this album. It's a longer electronic version of a song originally written on guitar, but it came out pretty cool, so here it is as a bonus.
They're pretty long songs, and might not be for everyone, but feel free to download and enjoy.
